Yeeeeee-Haaawwwwww!!!

On Friday night, I had a dream where the Duke Boys were driving off in the General Lee. I was waiving and yelling "Thanks Duke Boys!" Maybe it was out of affection from my childhood of watching that show....

The dream I had last night is a bit elusive. All of the scenery was over-sized and imposing. There was a re0occuring theme of finishing and reading a novel. I know in one part I was flapping a bed sheet as if I was putting in on a bed. There was a little girl wearing a white eighteenth century dress behind it. I heard whispers of the book that I was writing or reading. JK Rowling was somewhere as it was some horrific novel on Harry Potter. I was also in a big room with a pool.

Wish I remembered more...

Beyond the Rhetoric

Newsweek has a good article on the war rhetoric and how it differs from reality:

There is a risk that, as Election Day 2008 approaches, voters will be fooled or swept away by the clichés about Munich and Vietnam. In the reality of power, presidents generally realize that the choice between negotiation and force is rarely clear-cut or either-or. It can be hard to tell what either McCain or Obama would do if they were actually to take on the burdens and responsibilities of the presidency. But most voters know what, more than any other quality—more than tough talk or promises of conciliation—they are looking for in a president: good judgment.

Pray and It Will All Be Better

This state is full of weird people:

The 12-year-old boy who lived in a Necedah residence with his mother (Lewis) and sister, said he was told the smell of 90-year-old Alvina Magdelina Middlesworth's decomposing body was caused by his unbelief that she would come back to life.

The child testified Thursday morning during a preliminary hearing for Bushey, 58, who allegedly told Lewis, to leave Middlesworth's body on the toilet and pray for her to come back to life.

My Mood

is kind of like this, but just for today:

One, two, three
If you close the door
The night could last forever
Leave the sunshine out
And say hello to never

All the people are dancing
And theyre having such fun
I wish it could happen to me

But if you close the door
I'd never have to see the day again

If you close the door
The night could last forever
Leave the wine-glass out
And drink a toast to never

Oh, someday I know
Someone will look into my eyes
And say hello
Youre my very special one

But if you close the door
I'd never have to see the day again

Dark party bars, shiny cadillac cars
And the people on subways and trains
Looking gray in the rain, as they stand disarrayed
Oh, but people look well in the dark

And if you close the door
The night could last forever
Leave the sunshine out
And say hello to never

All the people are dancing
And theyre having such fun
I wish it could happen to me

Cause if you close the door
I'd never have to see the day again
I'd never have to see the day again, once more
I'd never have to see the day again

Strange Wisconsin

I always tell out-of-staters that there's something in the water in Wisconsin. We get more than our fair share of crazy fuckers. So here's a new subsection of my blog!

Watch Out For Chompers

Ineffective werewolf faces drug charges

A Wisconsin man who is facing drugs and property charges after being arrested while claiming that he was a werewolf and speaking what reportedly sounded like a medieval language.

39-year-old Robert Marsh was arrested after trying to break into a woman's apartment on March 1, breaking the deadbolt on her door and grabbing her arm in the process, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

He had been staying with the woman for a few days after getting out of jail, reports the Fond du Lac Reporter. During that time, he had not slept, but had drunk quite a lot and had become incoherent.

He had also mentioned frequently that he was a werewolf. In addition, he noted that was involved in witchcraft, and 'had powers'.

When confronted by police, he helpfully warned them that he was able to change form, although he politely refrained from shape-shifting whilst being arrested. He was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

In court, he gave his address as the Fond du Lac County Jail.

Police are not yet believed to have investigated the possibility that he actually is a werewolf.

Not Psychotic, but Funny
US man trapped in tank of chocolate for two hours

A 21-year-old US man was trapped in a tank of chocolate for about two hours early today.

Police Capt. Randy Berner said the worker said he got into the tank at the Debelis Corporation in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to unplug it and became trapped waist-deep in the chocolate.

Um, civil action is good, but why as clowns?
Clowns Sabotage Nuke Missile

On Tuesday morning, a retired Catholic priest and two veterans put on clown suits, busted into a nuclear missile launch facility, and began beating the silo cover with hammers, in an attempt to take the Minuteman III missile off-line. Seriously.

Escape to Wisconsin Minnesota

I feel like I'm in a cross of the Shining and Office Space today. The hallways seem long and contracting, voices are shrill, and technology is pissing me off. So I'll reminisce about the past weekend as it was a welcome relief from home.

Last Saturday was final game of the season against the Mayhem. I had most things packed on Wednesday as Thursday was going to be a full night and I wanted to leave after work on Friday. I managed to make it in at 7 AM and take a short lunch so I could head out at 3:45-4:00.... *someone interrupting... ok, gone* and get up to Northfield in time for Sophie's bedtime and my beer time. I realized that I had forgotten my suitcase and camera at home, so I snuck over there around noon to pick it up. Unfortunately, I forgot my suitcase at noon, too... *someone is bugging me.... and chewing gum obnoxiously... still here.... ok, gone* and checked my phone, finding Shaun's message. Thankfully I caught it and only had to drive three hours back to get my rugby clothes and little asthma pill.

Especially on the way back up, my mind drifted into day dreams and thoughts while I played both Before Sunrise and Before Sunset on my iPod. The full four hour journey seemed more like two, then. By the time it was all done, I managed to be on the road from 3:45 until 1:15 in the morning. Michael and Shari left the back door open and I crawled into my sleeping bag and was out in five minutes.

Saturday started well as Sophie showed up about three minutes after I woke up. Playing with a three-year-old helps you forget all the crap in your life. Not crap so much as clutter. That's it. Shari, Michael, Sophie and I went to the Tavern for breakfast where I got to spoil Sophie with all of the whipped cream off of my two hot chocolates. Note: some hot chocolate is high in iron! After that, Shari, Michael and Sophie headed to a graduation party and I headed to my rugby game.

Only that I almost got to the pitch and realized that, yet again, I had forgotten my little pink pill. I drove the half hour back to Northfield, ingested it, and headed back to the pitch. Being my early self, I still beat my whole team there. The game went well and I managed to play the whole game (hooray little pink pill!) and even tackled a guy at the goal line. Sophie got into the game a bit. She asked if the woman who said "Go! Go! Go!" (Mayhem coach) would put her in. She's going to have to wait a few years on that one, but being a bit aggressive, she'll make it into rugby at some point.

The four of us headed to Saint Paul for the third half. It didn't really pick up while I was there, so Shari and I caught up with Michael and Sophie in the park across the street. On the way there, some bum had climbed the traffic light post. When he got down, he climbed a nearby tree and talked to us. He was sure to tell Sophie not to do meth. I guess a crazy bum in a tree would be a good person to tell you that so you don't end up a crazy bum in a tree on Saturday afternoon in a small park in downtown Saint Paul. Unless you like doing that sort of thing.

Another strange occurrence was meeting Mustache Jim. We would have noted his cool mustache anyway, but it turns out he had the same button down shirt on as Shari. Strange thing is that Shari bought it twenty years ago at a thrift store and randomly put it on that morning. Stranger yet, she found the article on him later that week. Life is much better with random coincidences that makes you think not everything is rationally explained. Anyway, the day was even better after meeting him.

Down the Road with Linux

About a week ago my System76 computer arrived at my doorstep. I'm getting a bit fed up with the graft and bloat of Big Tech, so I'm...
