Windfall... and Gone Again

So yesterday, I pulled out my mortgage bill and prepared to pay it. Just like wearing your winter jacket for the first time for the season and finding a twenty in it, I found out that I had been paying a month ahead. I called to verify it, because you don't want to be Mr. Lazy Ass on your mortgage payments. The friendly man on the other end confirmed it. So now I'm a mortgage payment richer!

But that and more will be gone come Friday. Last Thursday, we had a condo social gathering. A girl there said she was looking for a kayaking partner, so I volunteered. Mostly, I fret about new things like that, but sometimes I give myself a swift kick in the ass and get moving. So I met here last Sunday at a store and have one all picked out. Come Friday, I can say good-bye to my mortgage payment plus some and enjoy lessons on Saturday.

If you see some neophyte paddling around Lake Monona on Saturday, wave since it's probably me.

"We're Old For Mammals"

Last night, I called up Adam, my second year roommate at Macalester. It has been a while since I talked to him, but as usual, the banter of what the other is doing had a philosophy-of-life tone to it. I always get a kick of his choice of vocabulary as he referred to our age by saying "We're old for mammals" and the possibility of a second child as "another podling". All in all he's doing well and I definitely get a good sense of what life really is from him. I feel a bit better today.

Speaking of perspective, I finally read "The Little Prince". I highly recommend it. I found it through Aasa's blog. Here's a excerpt of it.

Gene Simmons

The only part that I remember was watching that Gene Simmons reality show. A bunch of celebrities were in a limo. Ron Jeremy said something that pissed old fat and smelly Simmons off and he grabbed Ron by the neck and smashed his face into the side of the car. He then stormed out.

Reality TV suxxx.

At Peace

So I had a lucid dream last night that is too difficult to write down, but one part was interesting. I was at the ocean with a group of people. This girl and I would wade out a ways, then roll together in when a big wave came in. We kept doing that over and over.

Wary, Wary Sweepy

I got a full 8 last night, but I'm still dragging my ass. I even slept like a log. Damn, um, I don't know.

Walking On Caracas

I was walking from the US to Caracas, Venezuela with my roommate. We were walking along a shoreline with a tropical forest. One part of it, I saw Fidel Castro. Later on, I waded out into deeper water. I started sinking and some Looney Toon character came up and we were spinning as if we were going down a drain.

Beer on the Terrace

I went for a bike ride last night and met up with Kyle. In the last couple of years, I've kind of lost contact with Kyle. Not that I didn't see him regularly, it was more that I didn't know what was going on in his life. We stopped at the Union, had a pitcher of beer on the Terrace and caught up with each other. Turns out we're mostly doing ok but have our challenges.

It's good to catch up with someone. I forget that sometimes

A Long Sleep

Last night, after I arranged visitations with Shari and read some more of my book, my eyes were drooping. Sure, it was only 8:30, but my sheets were clean, my bed made, and my music playing in the background. I stretched myself over all of my bed and zoned out. I fell in that sleep where you're kind of awake, but perceive all of your thoughts in a crazed dream way.

I woke up about 9:30, drank some water, went to the bathroom, and laid back down. Next time I work up, it was 1:20 am. I did the same thing that I did at 9:30, but this time actually crawled under my sheets and slept.

I had some vivid dreams that have faded over the course of the day. Now I'm better rested than I have been in a while. Sometimes you just need to forget the world for a wee bit and sleep. Sleep is good.

Forward Ho

So in the coming weeks, I'm going to try my hand at, um, competing and not winning the Commodore's Cup. Basically, it's ten days of competition with parties every night. It would be a good way to waste away summer.

So the hard part is, I would LOVE to win the best team name. My first thought is "The Davey Jone's Rejects", but I'm not sure.

Any ideas?

Down the Road with Linux

About a week ago my System76 computer arrived at my doorstep. I'm getting a bit fed up with the graft and bloat of Big Tech, so I'm...
