In, ah, Nort'feeld, Dontchano
I made it up to Northfield, Minnesota without a scratch. That's a little bit amazing, since the first hundred miles were marked by dim-witted Minnesota drivers. I thought that it would get worse the closer I got the border, but somehow they became more sane the closer they were to their state. That was a pleasant surprise.
I'm sitting in the Goodbye Blue Monday Cafe. An iced chai tea is gurgling in my stomach. The girl at the counter messed up my order. I didn't complain, because sometimes it forces me to try something new and I find something I like. Not this time. The peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie was great, though.
Well, I'll be heading to my first ever state fair tomorrow. My parents went the the Wisconsin one a couple of weeks ago and they couldn't figure out how we're no longer the fattest state in the union. Hell, we don't even have a city in the Top 25. In you sagging face Detroit! Milwaukee made the Top 25 fittest cities. We rule!
Then again, we are still fat.

Supressed Memories
I was out with my roommate for some birthday party thing for someone he works with. I was talking to a girl and we were listing the concerts we've been to. I mentioned that I saw Cinderella in high school. That would normally get weird looks, and I'm not embarrassed by it, to tell you the truth. I forgot, however, who the opener was. She was at the same concert. It was Nelson. I saw Nelson in concert. That's embarassing. I know that I didn't pay to see them, but still.
How embarassing.

Dreams Versus Reality
I had a dream last night that my roommate was moving out. I couldn’t quite figure out why, but he was. The next part had Dave moving into a new apartment. Since I needed a new apartment, I asked him if there were any more apartments left and he said no. Then I was playing Civ III with a plasma TV hooked up to my CPU. Then it translated into reality and I was placing people on squares so they could build their cities in an optimal way. Why can’t I drink a beer or travel or go see a band or do anything I actually do in real life in my dreams. I’m either in a crisis or doing something mundane. Stupid dreams.
So far today, reality has better than my dreams. I did wake up just about the time I should be at work, but the good part is that I got an extra hour of sleep and only made it into work 20 minutes late. I went to a job site where we have a warranty problem and found out the fix would be easier than expected. Plus I had a pretty damn good tuna fish sandwich for lunch. Hooray for me, or some stupid saying along those lines.

Hollow thoughts
So this is an actual entry and not a “What Variety of Earthworm Are You?”-type entry. Life’s pretty much the same, but that’s what I always say. I could bump into a friend from elementary school and say that everything is the same. Never mind puberty, college, work, girlfriends (or lack thereof), lessons learned, lessons forgotten, abductions by aliens, that King Dong up the you-know-where, so on and so forth.
As has been the case throughout 99% of my life, I met a really cool girl and that’s it. This time, she was married. And lives in another city. That’s the unusual double-whammy. Shaun and I caught up with friends from his work on Friday night and we both noticed her right away. It seems all the engaging, intelligent, interesting women in the world, or at least the ones that cross my path, are all taken or uninterested, or something. Maybe I can find a needy, clingy, immature girl to date. ***hhewwwwwww****
The big dilemma in my life at the moment is what tattoo to get next. It’s been the dilemma at the moment, off and on, for the last 4+ years. I thought about something Norse, but, unfortunately, that’s been eaten up by the whole Odin-White-Supremacy angle. I found a cool symbol for chaos/entropy, but it was some recently created symbol that weird magick (yes, with a k) people use. I won’t be associated with that. I like a couple overuse ones, but won’t do that for obvious reasons. I though about getting a kodama, but can’t figure out how to make that work. So I’m still stuck.
That’s the excitement right now. That and I’m pissed that I can’t tab over to start a paragraph.
And, finally, two more:

hand holding - you like to be in constant physical
contact with your special someone but you don't
want to take things too quickly.

(x^2 * y^2/3)/z^.23=I don't know
I took my GMAT last night. I didn't do so well on it. I cancelled my scores, so I don't know what they were. I messed up on the second essay. I don't write very well in a short period of time. That's something I need to practice. I understood the math section, but my skills are so rusty so I didn't do so well there, either. I believe I did well on the reading comprehension and sentence correction portion. The good thing is I know what I don't know. I'll study and do well the next time.
Funny, I liked taking the test. I'm glad I'm going back to school.

Dreams
I had a dream in the early morning hours about a girl I liked. We, and a couple of other people, were in a grassy field on top of a cliff. She was playing with a dog and was not interested in me, so of course I was jealous. Then the damn dog was some guy and then I was extremely jealous. I woke up and just kind of laid there being happy that I had the dream at all.
What is it about dreams?

Old Game
I came across "Guess the Dictator and/or Sitcom Character" a couple of years ago. I managed to stump it once. Now it's impenatrible. It got Lindsay and Bill from Freaks and Geeks, Snake and Ralph Wiggam from The Simpsons, Joseph Stalin, Jerry Seinfeld (ok, that's an easy one), and one other I can't remember. Give it a try.

Did Jon Stewart make this? I'm not sure this is for real! Strange, strange country we live in.

Squirrel
When I got back from lunch, I saw a dead squirrel lying in the driveway. I didn't want anyone to squash it and get guts all over, so I went to move it. I walked over to shove it out of the way with my foot and I thought I saw it breathing. I nudged it with my foot and it's eyes opened and it squirmed a bit. It didn't look like it was hit by a truck and it didn't show any other physical injury. I though about kicking its head in to keep it from suffering, but thought better of it; deciding not to play god or anything like it.
I went inside but decided I should at least move it so it wouldn't get run over. I grabbed a shovel from the warehouse and went to scoop it up and move it into the bushes. When I got closer, I noticed that it had stood up and moved a little. I went near it and tapped the shovel. It slowly (for a squirrel) moved into the bushes and out of harms way. Maybe it was just a little sick or maybe it's dead now. I'm glad I didn't kill it myself. Some things are best left alone.

No Women
On Thursday, I got this email from my friend Steve:
"My friend Prescott's band is playing Sat. night, and they're recording the show for a CD. No cover. And there should be lots of grad. students (single!) there."
Sounds good to me, so Shaun, Tom and I packed into my car and headed off to Milwaukee last night. I tried to take a better way to Steve's house and got lost. Uh, the neighborhood we were in didn't exactly look welcoming. I did find the street I usually use to cut over. Shaun and Tom were getting a little restless by then. I drove up and down the street, and nothing looked familiar. We were starting to get shouts and such from people on corners, so I was relieved when I found Capital Drive. I found my way over to Steve's street, parked, and looked for his house. We couldn't find it, but we did manage to perk the interest of several households, what with three dipshits walking along the sides of their houses looking for the second floor entrance. Turns out we were one block off. Shaun and Tom really started giving me shit then.
After moving one block over, the five of us (including Dan) made our way to Max's Red Eye. The bar is a dive on the divide between an OK neighborhood, and the type where people heckle you on corners. The bartender looked like a haggard Warrant groupie and talked like she smoked 10 packs of menthols a day, and the croud of about 8 people looked like the typical crowd of a dive bar. We got our drinks and waited for the women to show up. We watched about 45 minutes of band set-up and about two women that Steve knew showed up. Shaun and I figured this was par for the course, since every time we visit Steve, there's no one around and when we don't, he always says we missed a good time.
The night took a turn for the best/worst when the band finally started playing. It took Shaun and Tinkles about five seconds to start heckling the band. It may have been impolite, since Steve works in the UWM English Department with a couple of them, but they were a sub par death metal band, which itself is a sub par genre of music. It didn't take the band long to notice Shaun and Tinkles laughing, since we were about three feet from the band. Shaun requested "When the Children Cry", and the lead singer asked someone to punch Shaun in the face. When they launched in to their non-masterpiece, I looked at Steve, who looked confused and he asked if we should go. So a third of the audience picked up and left.
We then headed over to the north side to some place called the BBC. Unfortunately, it was a sports bar and not a bar based on my news source of choice. Steve told us the guys in the band laugh at him for doing stand-up, so then we didn’t regret heckling them. Not much more of note happened except two dipshits with modified Harleys chugged around the street, a bum passed out in a chair on the sidewalk cafĂ© portion of the bar, and I tried and failed to get a Curious George stuffed animal at the Perkins in Waukesha.
God that band sucked.

Cute to Hot
The cute gardening dork came in to the station tonight except that she was less of a cute dork and more of a hot, not-so-dork. What did I do? I did everything she asked of me and more. I'm such a compliant wuss.
A Name Change and Catwoman
I changed the name of my blog. I wasn't living up to the title of my old one, so there it is.
Included in the Batman: The Animated Series DVD boxset I bought recently was a voucher to go see Catwoman. It's been posted to my refrigerator with my "We're Americans. We fuck up shit." magnet I got form Shari and Michael. Last night was a pretty dead night plus it was hot and humid all day. Since I hate the sun, movie theaters have always been a refuge of the dark. It was raining by the time I got there and I was somewhat soaked by the time I got in. I handed the cashier my ticket and walked right in to "The Bourne Supremacy". I liked the first one, and this one was good too.
This post went nowhere. Cool.
