Web 1.0!

So, here I am back here. Safe to say that Web 2.0 sucks and Web 3.0 can't figure out if it is the metaverse, blockchain, AI or all three sponsored by cryptocoins. All a way to say I want something calmer with less noise. I expect the readers of this continuation of brain farts to be approximately zero, but I'm doing this for me.

I'm watching Heavenly Creatures for the first time in, uh, a decade and a half? Still my favorite Peter Jackson film. I remember seeing it at this small second-floor theater in Nottingham when I studied there. It was a double bill with a film called Suture. Still feel a lot of darkness in this one. I think in the 90's I was more a fan of Kate Winslet, minus Titanic, which is overrated with crappy acting. Now, Melanie Lynskey. She makes everything she is in better. No slight on Kate Winslet of course.

Well, here's a post!

A Little Dirty

I feel a little dirty as I just gifted the first Twilight book to my niece today. She emailed asking me if I'd buy it for her. Before anyone (all 0 of you readers) get on my case, I used it for good, I think. I also said she had to read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. She was going to get Twilight one way or another, so I got to bundle a better-written and a better-example book.

Nostalgia

Time to get nostalgic about a movie I saw eighteen years ago and was about a time seventeen years earlier. My college roommates can verify that I watch it non-stop.

Epidemic

Seems like we have a heroin problem each week in the paper:

A Cottage Grove woman who admitted to paramedics that she had used heroin crashed her vehicle into a traffic signal pole on the east side Tuesday afternoon, Madison police reported.

Um, don't drive and kill someone else.

Charlie with Charlie Sheen

A lot of last night's dream is jumbled, but the clearest part was me trying to convince Charlie Sheen to take better care of himself. He snorted a bunch of coke anyway and I was riding shotgun in his Land Rover. He nodded out and the truck went off the road and over a lot of bumps. I think I yelled at him and then stormed off.

A Whirlwind

My dreams last night where very vivid, but I can't remember most of it now. As follows:

  • I was a partisan for the socialists in the Spanish Civil War and helped instigate it. It took place on two city blocks that were enclosed in a warehouse. I tried to flee to Argentina, which was through an opening) but stayed until we won. I stabbed a guy in the gut at his request.
  • I was in some school and don't remember much.
  • I was with my rugby team at work in the shop. The shop was enormous and my father's old partner was leading us. I remember arguing with him.
  • Then I was attacking people on a suburban street that ended in a mall entrance. I threatened them with a sawed-off shotgun. I only had two shells left. I did shoot two people that tried to leave and then a dog someone sent upon me. I climbed a fence with one strand of barbed wire on it.
Can't say I remember anything else.

Got No Direction

I'm happily sitting here with my glass of absinthe, playing solitaire on my computer and listening to my 1,788 favorite songs on iTunes through my headphones when this song comes on. I'd sing to it, buy my roommate is deathly tired and I have a terrible voice. Anyway, the song reminded me why I just can't accept the world as it is handed to me. Not that it's a bad place, just that it could be so much better. Rejection isn't cynical, at least it isn't inherently. The Tunisian and Egyptian protestors aren't pessimists. Well, they're pessimists in that they don't believe in the status quo. But they've rejected it and looked for something better. It's amazing why shit circumstances will bring you to do.

So, this is why I find more rebellion in Fats Domino than I do Motley Crue. Fats has more life and joy. Motley Crue is pure hedonism. Fine, but so is masturbation.

And, fuck it, I'm putting two spaces after my fucking sentences.

Down the Road with Linux

About a week ago my System76 computer arrived at my doorstep. I'm getting a bit fed up with the graft and bloat of Big Tech, so I'm...
